Wiltshire featured in Group Travel Organiser Magazine

Wiltshire is featured in a magazine encouaging groups to visit the County. In Devizes, we are working on a 'day out' package for a visit to Wadworth Visitor Centre, the Kennet and Avon Canal and Wiltshire Heritage Museum.

Devizes Literary and Scientific Institution - new history!

Local historian Elizabeth Gibbs has just published a brief history of the Devizes Literary and Scientific Institution by Elizabeth Gibbs. The Institution has a fascinating history, and was founded in 1833, and moved to the present building on Northgate Street in 1907. You can buy the book in a number of local bookshops, and also online from the Museum website.

PCT exhibition at the Town Hall - Friday 4 December

There is an exhibition at the Town Hall about the plans for the Primary Care Centre and a retirement village to be built on Quaker's Walk on Friday from 4-7pm.

New Devizes book launch!

The launch for the new book by Matthew McMurray on the history of Samuel Powell's House - no 8 Long Street - is being held at the Museum at 7pm on Tuesday 1st December. Come along, meet the author, and get your copy signed!

Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade - Nov 27

This Friday sees the Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade. An exciting evening with lots of things to see and do, including the Lantern Parade from 6.15 and the switching on of the Christmas lights. Full details are available here.

Help build Stonehenge – in a Day!

Come and help Stonehenge expert Julian Richards build Stonehenge at Wiltshire Heritage Museum in Long Street on Sunday 30 August 2009. Everyone will be able to help construct (out of cardboard and wallpaper) and decorate Trilithons and bluestones to recreate a smaller version of Stonehenge. The activity will take place in the Museum car park - or in the Lecture Hall if this summer's 'Barbour queue' weather continues. Come along at any time between 11am and 3pm. Entry is free.
